Key Largo Flats fishing is made wonderful by Everglades National Park. The vast expanses of the Everglades, millions of acres of sawgrass, cypress stands, brackish water and jungle trees, provide nutrients for hatching grounds of all kinds of species of fish, which eventually make their way to the bayside of Key Largo. The bay side is where Key Largo flats fishing takes place, the rich ecological system which draws from millions of acres of Florida Bay.

Key Largo is the closest Key to the Florida mainland. It’s eighteen miles from Florida City, which is around thirty miles south of Miami. It’s accessible from both Miami and Fort Lauderdale International Airports, and there are several types of accommodations available for visitors who plan on doing some Key Largo flats fishing. You can even stay in Homestead, on the mainland, and drive into Key Largo for a day of fishing. If you want to stay in Key Largo, there’s a Westin, and several other large luxury hotels as well as smaller hotels and vacation rentals in town. The smaller hotels will often be geared toward scuba divers, but anyone can stay there. They are often reasonably priced, friendly, and situated on the water in lovely settings.
